Class 2 Autumn 2 2023

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. With time changing, some may struggle to keep their spirits high, but we will be embarking on an exciting journey of learning this term that I hope will lighten the hearts of all our classmates and their families.

Our topic this half term is ‘The Great Fire of London’. In this unit of study, we will explore the key events of the Great Fire and begin to develop our understanding of how we can find out about the past. Please see the project map and medium-term plan for more details on objectives covered as part of this project. These will be available on our school website by the end of the week.

Parent Consultations

I have decided to spread our parent meetings across three afternoons:

Monday, 6th November, 2:15pm – 5:50pm

Tuesday, 7th November, 1pm – 5:50pm

Wednesday 8th November, 2:15pm – 5:50pm

This is in the hope that everyone can choose a 15-minute slot that works best for them. Please could you contact Gaynor in the office to book your slot this week?

These meetings provide the opportunity to have a brief talk about your child and their progress in class. Please could I ask that, should you have a pressing matter you wish to discuss with me, you send me an email (bfulton@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk) in advance of us meeting, so that I can prepare to succinctly answer any questions you may have? I hope this will afford you the opportunity to make best use of your time with me.

Christmas performance

With Christmas fast approaching and knowing that the last few weeks of the school term are always so busy, you may want to add our Christmas performance to your diaries. This special family event will take place at Stoke-Climsland Church on Thursday, 7 December. There will be an afternoon performance at 3:15pm, followed by an evening performance at 6pm and parents can choose which show they would like to attend.

Show & Tell

As mentioned in our parent meeting last term, I have added ‘Show & Tell’ to our timetable. This will take place on Wednesday afternoons. Please could you make a note of when it’s your child’s turn, and help them to prepare and remember to bring something in on their allocated date?

Wednesday, 8 November Amber, Amelia M, Amelia W, Amelie, Arlo

Wednesday, 15 November Bella, Ben, Bethany E, Bethany, Ellanor

Wednesday, 22 November Evie, George, Harry, Jacob, James

Wednesday, 29 November Jesse, Katelyn, Laya-Rose, Lilian, Lottie

Wednesday, 6 December Maggie, Reyd, Seb, Senara, Stella

Wednesday, 13 December Sybbie, Taya, Thomas, Tristan, Trudey

Outdoor Learning and PE

PE will continue to be on Tuesday and Wednesday. Children should wear PE kit to school on these days. If your child attends dodgeball with Mr Bain on Mondays, they need to bring in their PE kit to change into at the end of the day.

Outdoor learning also takes place on a Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for learning outdoors and has a waterproof coat, waterproof trousers (if not possible then a change of clothes is crucial) and wellies. As the weather is becoming more autumnal, children may also bring woolly hats and gloves. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Daily Routines

Children will continue to arrive at school each morning, via the Year 2 outside gate located to the right of the main entrance, from 8.45am –8.55am and be collected at 3.00pm.

Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat every day as they will be expected to spend some of the day outside in all weathers (unless extreme).

Reading

In Year 2, a book bag is essential as we use these to send books and letters home. The children will be bringing books home to read daily. Please could you listen to your child read at home every day and then return his/her book to school the following day? One of their books will be a Read, Write, Inc book and although they are sent home on a Wednesday, they need to be back in school on Thursday and Friday because the children use them in our morning phonics sessions. Although we do our very best to listen to as many children read out loud every day, we appreciate your support in encouraging your children to also read at home.

Other information

Children will continue to have free fruit during the morning as a snack that they take outside to eat at playtime. Your child has access to their drink throughout the day, but this should be water only (unless previously arranged for medical reasons) and please could you ensure that the bottle is watertight.

Mrs. Yardley and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children last term and we’re looking forward to building even stronger relationships in the term ahead. As always, communication between school and home is of the utmost importance and we would like to encourage you to please use Class Dojo for any questions, issues, or concerns.

Wishing you all the best for the term ahead,

Mrs. Fulton & Mrs. Yardley
