Class 2 Spring 2 2024
Hello everyone and welcome back to school!
Parent consultations I am looking forward to our parent teacher meetings that will take place from Monday, 4th to Wednesday, 6th March between 1-5pm. A booking form will be sent out so that you can personally book a time slot that suits you. This is a new system that we are trialling in the hope that it will make the booking process easier for parents. We ask for your patience as we iron out any issues. Should you encounter any difficulties during the booking process, please do email me at bfulton@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk. It would be great to see all parents this term, to celebrate the children’s achievements. If you are unable to meet with me in person, we can arrange an online meeting at another time. Please send me an email and I will do my best to arrange this.
Show & Tell Since it is one of the most popular activities, we will once again have ‘Show and Tell’ on a Wednesday afternoon. Please make a note of when it is your child’s turn to bring something in. It has been lovely to learn things about the children that we didn’t know before, so we will continue with this theme until Easter.

Our history topic this term is ‘How did we learn to fly’. If you or a family member have any experience with flying and would be willing to share your experiences, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please take a look at our Project Map for a summary of the learning that will take place across the curriculum this term.
Reading and Times Tables
Please read with your child at home as frequently as possible – ideally 3-5 times a week. It is useful if you can record any reading in your child’s reading diary even if they have read a book from home. Progress in reading involves phonic knowledge to sound out and blend with fluency. It is useful to practise the speedy green words which can be found at the back of the reading books sent home. Children may start Fred talking words (sounding out), you can encourage them to ‘Fred in their head’ (sound out in their head) and move to speedy read when they do not need to sound out the word. Any help with this at home will support their fluency.
In maths, we have continued to learn the 10-, 5- and 2-times tables. Up to now, the children have been encouraged to practise Numbots at home. Since they have started to learn the times tables at school, they can begin to use Times Table Rockstars too! Kindly note that the login details for TTRockstars is the same as Numbots and can be found on the same website.
Outdoor Learning and PE
PE will continue to be on Tuesday with Mr. Baine and on Wednesday with Mrs. Fulton. We are excited to be learning orientation skills on a Wednesday afternoon and this will require that the children spend time outdoors, regardless of the weather. Please could we therefore request that you ensure your child has waterproof clothes and welly boots at school and that these are clearly marked. A change of clothes is also useful in case of getting muddy in the rain. Outdoor learning takes place on a Tuesday afternoon, after P.E.
Daily Routines
Children will continue to arrive at school each morning via the Year 2 outside gate located to the right of the main entrance from 8.45am –8.55am and will be collected at 3.00pm. Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat every day as they will be expected to spend some of the day outside in all weathers (unless extreme). As always, we are excited to get the term started and engage in learning. If, at any time, you have concerns or questions, please feel free to message us on Class Dojo and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Warm wishes,
Mrs Fulton and Mrs Yardley
