Home Learning
Reading
Thank you for your continued support with listening to your child read at home. Ideally, reading at least three times a week to an adult at home would be great and would really enhance the progress they make with their reading. Mrs Yardley will try to listen to most of the children regularly throughout the week and will change their reading books accordingly. They will take home phonic based books and a story book from their phonic session. Mrs Yardley will write in their reading
records/logs when she has listened to them read; please could you write in their reading record when you have listened to them read at home too. The children are also being supported in class with improving their fluency, so you may see ‘Speedy green words’, ‘red words’, ‘common exception words’ or ’60 second read’ written in their reading records.
This term we are continuing to focus on the fluency of reading. This means how well the children can read the words without blending the sounds. The children will be supported with this in reading lessons (if not in a phonic group); working with a volunteer teacher once a week and through their reading of ‘red words’, ‘common exception words’ and ’60 second read’ with Mrs Yardley.
Accelerated Reader Programme
More and more of the children are beginning to come off the RWInc phonic programme and begin to access books on the Accelerated Reader programme. This programme allows the children to choose their books and then quiz on them. It is important that they are still reading these books to an adult at home regularly, so they can make progress. They will be able to quiz these books on a Wednesday. Please come and have a chat with me if you would like more information.
Maths
If you would like to do any maths at home with your child, below lists some areas you could cover:
- Number bonds/pairs to 10 and 20
- Know by heart 5 + ? = ? (5+1 = 6, 5+2 =7, 5+3=8, 5+4)=9
- Learning their 2, 5 and 10 multiplication and division facts
- Adding and subtracting a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number, e.g. 24 + 8 = or 32 – 7 =
- Take part in any practical maths around the home, e.g. cooking, measuring and money
Outdoor learning
The class will continue to be participating in outdoor learning each week on a Tuesday. Please ensure they have outdoor shoes and a waterproof coat in school every day. For outdoor learning, they will need waterproof trousers and wellies. This can be left in the boxes outside the classroom.
