Class 3 Summer 2 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all had a lovely half-term and welcome back.

This term’s geography project is called ‘Our UK’. We will be learning about the four countries in the UK and what makes them unique. Our class book this term is ‘A Bear called Paddington’ by Michael Bond.

Below lists the children’s learning in English and maths in more detail:

English

  • Individual reading, group reading, reading comprehension lessons and guided reading sessions.
  • Spellings/phonics.
  • Narrative writing - stories with fictional characters.
  • Poetry types.

Maths

  • Recognise angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn. Identify right angles, recognise that 2 right angles make a half-turn, 3 make three-quarters of a turn and 4 a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle.
  • Solidifying our mathematical foundations, including number bonds, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Add and subtract amounts of money to give change, using both £ and p in practical contexts.

We will also be:

  • Recapping on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and developing fluency.
  • Revisiting the 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 times tables.
  • Learning mental recall of doubles and halves of numbers to 20, e.g. 12 doubled is 24 and 12 halved is 6.
  • Learning all number bonds for 100

Home Learning

Reading

I have been delighted with the continued progress the children have made with their reading. However, to maintain that progress, it is still really important that the children are reading at least three times a week to an adult at home. If they are using the Accelerated Reader programme, it would be great if the children could quiz their books more regularly, so that they feel a sense of achievement. It is also a great way to check their understanding and comprehension skills of the books that they have read. Please could they bring their reading books in everyday, so they can access any opportunities to read/quiz? Thank you for your continued support with this.

Writing

Any additional handwriting practice at home would be really beneficial. Lined handwriting paper can be made available to you if this is helpful. Questioning children’s understanding of adjectives, verbs, adverbs, nouns, expanded noun phrases to develop fluency of recall would also put the children in good stead for Year 4.

Maths

  • Learning mental recall of doubles and halves of numbers to 20, e.g. 12 doubled is 24 and 12 halved is 6.
  • Learning all number bonds for 100 using multiples of 5.
  • Learning their x2, x3, x4, x5, x8 multiplication tables and related division facts.
  • Take part in any practical maths around the home, e.g. cooking, measuring and money.
  • Access to Hit the Button, TT Rockstars or Numbots can make children more engaged at home. (Hit the Button is free to use and requires no login. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button).
  • The children do have logins for TTR and Numbots - these should be inscribed in the front page of their yellow reading record book - if it is not and you would like your child’s login details please let me know?

Outdoor learning

The class will be participating in outdoor learning each week. Please ensure they have outdoor shoes and a waterproof coat in school every day. For outdoor learning, they will need waterproof trousers and wellies. This can be left on their peg all week. Outdoor learning will take place on Friday afternoons.

PE

Our PE days this term are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The children can wear their PE kit to school on those days. Children will need a hoodie or jumper on these days please, due to the unpredictability of the weather! If they are attending an after school sports club, they will need to bring in their PE kit to change into after school.

Warmer weather

Although it can be very tricky to rely on the British weather, please could children wear sun-cream and a hat on the days when the sun does make an appearance. Thank you.

Thank you for your support,
