Class 3 Spring 1 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year to you all. I hope you have had an enjoyable festive season and are returning refreshed.
Our project this term is “Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain?” We will be investigating why the Romans invaded, how the Celts reacted, and how the Romans changed life in Britain. As part of this unit, we will be making Roman shields and are very much looking forward to our Roman Day at the end of the term.
In English, we will be exploring Roman myths and their features through reading, drama, and retelling. Our class book will be Julius Zebra – Rumble with the Romans. Towards the end of the term, we will focus on non-fiction information texts and present our knowledge of the Romans in a non-chronological report.
Please try to read with your children at least three times a week. This could include sharing their school reading book or enjoying books and magazines from home. It is very helpful if this reading is recorded in their reading records. Please ensure children bring their reading books and reading records into school every day.
In maths, we will complete our unit on addition and subtraction before moving on to multiplication and division. We will continue to revise the 3 times tables while focusing on learning and building fluency in recalling the 4 times tables. Please encourage children to practise using Times Tables Rock Stars, Hit the Button, or other fun online resources.
Please ensure children have a coat, a named water bottle, and a snack each day. They will also need outdoor shoes so they can take part in activities and playtimes in the woods and on the field. Hats and gloves are also recommended as the weather remains cold—please make sure all items are clearly named.
PE sessions will be on Friday.
Could I also ask that you look through the school dinner menu with your children each week to help avoid any upset if there isn’t an option they like?
As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via Dojo, email (shunter@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk), or by speaking to me at drop-off or pick-up times.
Kind regards,
Mrs Hunter
