Class 4 Spring 2 2026
Dear parents/carers,
Welcome to Spring 2! I hope that you all managed to enjoy some well-deserved family time and rest this half term.
Our history topic this half term is focused on ‘What changed in Britain after the Anglo-Saxon invasion. Children will learn about the spread of Christianity, the Viking invasions. They consider what changed in society and governance, what were the reasons for invasion and how their rule ended as well as looking at the 3 main tribes; The Angles, The Saxons and The Jutes.
General Reminders
PE will take place on a Monday and Tuesday (Due to the need to share indoor space with other year groups, I will update you all if these days need to change.) Furthermore as we enter into the colder and wetter months could children ensure they have coats with them each day. Thank you.
Home learning
As in all previous parent letters, reading with your child and questioning them on what they’ve read remains absolutely essential, and I’d politely ask that this be consistently done at home at a minimum of 4 times per week. Continued and regular times table practice at home (using TT Rockstars – all children should have their own personal login details) or hit the button as, by Year 4, the children are expected to know all of their tables (x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x11, x12) to 12 times. In preparation for the Times Table check that all Year 4 children around the country must take in May, we will be conducting times table tests each week beginning soon.

Upcoming workshop with Bottonnett wind farm
On Monday the 16th March Bottonnett wind farm will be coming into school to deliver a free workshop designed to teach local primary school pupils about renewable energy, climate change, and the technical aspects of wind power. They will be coming into school and also arranging a bus transport for us to visit the wind farm on the day also.
Long trousers and closed toe shoes must be worn (walking boots/wellies recommended; sandals are not permitted) for the visit to the farm.
Parent evenings
Parent evenings will be on Monday the 9th and Tuesday the 10th of March.
Cornwall music project
The children have really enjoyed their Friday music project thus far with Emma. When we come back after half term we have one more practice session and then our performance on St Piran's day (5th March). This is also world book day for the school so we will embrace the fact children may be in costumes or outfits! I’m sure it will add to the performance! More details will be posted about the performance. It will take place around 2:30 - 3:00. So if you can make it and be part of our audience then please do. We are hoping if the weather holds to complete the performance on the green in the village just near the school, close to the park and shop/church if you know the area. (1-2 minute walk from school).
Early morning work
from 8:45 school gates are open and this is an excellent time for children to
practice their morning maths, times tables and often handwriting. I completely
understand that often the morning rush can be tricky, however I just want to
encourage all of you to ensure that where possible, children are maximising this
time. These tasks help the children consolidate key skills, improve/embed
fluency and get settled for the day ahead. Please do your best to ensure your
child can make the most of this valuable learning time.
Thank you for your continued support and any pressing issues please contact me
through dojo or school email. twoodhall@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk
Kind regards
Mr Woodhall (Year 4 class teacher)
