Class 4 Summer 1 2026
Dear parents/carers,
Welcome to Summer 1! A very short term this one, only 5 weeks!
Our topic this half term is a geography-based one that is focused on Europe, and in particular, The Mediterranean Sea and the countries that span its vast coastlines.
General Reminders
PE will take place on a Monday and Friday (Due to the need to share indoor/outdoor space with other year groups, I will update you all if these days need to change.) Furthermore as we enter into the (hopefully) warm and dry months could children ensure they have hats and suncream when suited. Also, if it does look a bit grey and rainy as the UK still tends to from time to time, then please send a coat in when needed. Thank you.
Home learning
As in all previous parent letters, reading with your child and questioning them on what they’ve read remains absolutely essential, and I’d politely ask that this be consistently done at home at a minimum of 4 times per week. Continued and regular times table practice at home (using TT Rockstars – all children should have their own personal login details) or hit the button as, by Year 4, the children are expected to know all of their tables (x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x11, x12) to 12 times. In preparation for the Times Table check that all Year 4 children around the country must take in the coming months, we will be conducting times table tests each week. This began last term and will continue each Friday. I am keeping a log of individual scores for each week for each child in our class.

Early morning work
from 8:45 school gates are open and this is an excellent time for children to
practice their morning maths, times tables and often handwriting. I completely
understand that often the morning rush can be tricky, however I just want to
encourage all of you to ensure that where possible, children are maximising this
time. These tasks help the children consolidate key skills, improve/embed
fluency and get settled for the day ahead. Please do your best to ensure your
child can make the most of this valuable learning time.
Thank you for your continued support and any pressing issues please contact me
