Class 4 Summer 2 2026

Dear parents/carers,

Welcome to Summer 2! Our final term of the year!

Our topic this half term is a history-based one: Were the Vikings raiders or peace-loving settlers?

General Reminders

PE will take place on a Monday and Friday (Due to the need to share indoor/outdoor space with other year groups, I will update you all if these days need to change.) Furthermore as we enter into the (hopefully) warm and dry months could children ensure they have hats and suncream when suited. Also, if it does look a bit grey and rainy as the UK still tends to from time to time, then please send a coat in when needed. Thank you.

Monday will be rounders and Friday will be football. If children have football boots/trainers suitable for football could they please bring these in on a Friday, thank you.

MTC Times table check

Over the next two weeks, Year 4 pupils around the country will be completing the statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in schools. This is a short online assessment designed to assess children's fluency and recall of multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. To support your child in achieving their best, we kindly ask that they continue to practise their times tables regularly at home. Frequent, short practice sessions can make a significant difference to confidence and speed of recall. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child prepare for this important assessment. Children will be completing some practice attempts online before they complete their official test which will record their score for the official test only. The test will be carried out within the next two weeks in school.

Home learning

As in all previous parent letters, reading with your child and questioning them on what they’ve read remains absolutely essential, and I’d politely ask that this be consistently done at home at a minimum of 4 times per week. Continued and regular times table practice at home (using TT Rockstars – all children should have their own personal login details) or hit the button as, by Year 4, the children are expected to know all of their tables (x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x11, x12) to 12 times. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Early morning work

from 8:45 school gates are open and this is an excellent time for children to

practice their morning maths. I completely understand that often the morning rush can be tricky, however I just want to encourage all of you to ensure that where possible, children are maximising this time. These tasks help the children consolidate key skills, improve/embed fluency and get settled for the day ahead. Please do your best to ensure your child can make the most of this valuable learning time.

Thank you for your continued support and any pressing issues please contact me

through dojo or school email. twoodhall@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk

Kind regards,

Mr Woodhall (Year 4 class teacher)
