Class 5 Autumn 2 2023
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a well-deserved half term break. The children have worked really hard so far in Year 5 and I look forward to seeing this continue as we head into Autumn 2.
Reminder: As I’m sure you are well aware, we have a child in the class with a severe nut allergy, so please remember that, according to school policy, no nuts or products containing nuts should be brought into school at any time. Since this allergy could have extremely serious consequences, please help me keep him safe by:
a) Avoiding giving children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches
b) Avoiding giving nuts or nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks
c) Avoiding supplying the school with cakes or food items containing nuts for birthday celebrations, sales or events
d) Avoiding sending containers such as cereal boxes for DT / Art lessons into school which may have contained produce made with nuts
This half term’s topic is a geography-based unit that will focus on rivers. Children will learn that:
• Although rivers hold only a tiny fraction of Earth’s total water, they have always been essential to human civilization
• Rivers carry freshwater to people, plants, and animals all across Earth and provide people with a method of transport and water power
• They also shape the land by carving out valleys and canyons
In week 3, I’ll be looking arrange a trip to Calstock so that we can see some of the river features that have been taught on the Tamar. I will ask parents to drop the children down to Calstock Quay in the morning and we will get a coach back to school after lunch. A letter with more details will follow shortly.
PE will continue to be held on Mondays with myself and Thursdays with Mr Bain. The children will also continue to have an outdoor learning session on Thursdays so please provide the children with appropriate clothing for the day, such as warm coat, waterproofs and wellies. As has been previously mentioned, children can continue to come into school wearing their PE kit on these days.
I think that is all the important information for now. Obviously, with Class Dojo and the tremendous teacher-parent communication that it provides, I will post details, updates (and polite requests!) throughout the year. If there are any specific questions that you may have at this stage, please don’t hesitate in sending me an instant message on Class Dojo or email me at: jamie@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk.
Thank you
Jamie Burchell
