Class 6 Summer 1 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope everyone has had a relaxing Easter break. The Summer Term is finally here, although the weather doesn’t seem to have caught on to that fact just yet! This term is definitely jam-packed; we have swimming, the SATs and our rehearsals for the Hobbit will be ramping up a gear – now taking place every Wednesday afternoon. The London trip is also getting closer, and we have our bag-packing fundraiser this Saturday from 10am-3pm at Callington Tesco. Thank you so much to those children and adults who were able to make this date and have signed up. Thank you also for the help and support you have given your children in completing some or all of the holiday practise packs. Your support, as always, is incredibly appreciated.

Just a reminder that SATs will be taking place Monday 13th May – Thursday 16th May and that we would like to invite you to an information meeting on Monday 29th April that will provide details of this and the London trip. The SATs information part will take place first so for those children not going on the London trip, parents may leave after this section. The meeting will take place in the Year 6 Classroom and will start at 3.15

In terms of our learning, the following six weeks will be geography-focused and our project is ‘Maps’. The project is focused around further developing the children’s map work skills through the use of OS maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer packages. Fieldwork will reinforce taught skills through hands on, practical map work in the school grounds and locality of the village. Our English will be based around ‘The Hobbit’ and we will be exploring (and writing) riddles and writing a discursive piece on how dragons have been represented in film and literature. Please see our project map for more detail about our curriculum.

Routines and Groups: PE and outdoor learning lessons will continue to be on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, with Monday being our swimming session (please refer to separate information for specific dates and guidance on the swimming sessions). Children’s PE kit and wet weather kit should be kept in school at all times if possible. We try to do as much outdoor learning as possible so we also ask that children should keep outdoor shoes/wellies at school if possible.

For those children attending booster groups, these will continue for the entirety of this term. Unfortunately, our break-time skating group will now have to come to an end to protect the newly-refreshed hall floor. I would like to thank all the children who have been involved in this for their hard work and dedication. I really hope that they continue to skate outside of school as they have come so far in the weeks we have been learning skating skills. I hope they have enjoyed being part of our Stoke Skating Team!

I am very much looking forward to all that this term has to offer. There is a definite ‘buzz’ in the classroom as the children prepare to spend their final Summer Term together at Stoke Climsland. Thank you again for all of your support; as always please do contact me via Dojo or the school office if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards

Miss Harris
