Class 6 Summer 2 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope everyone has had a lovely half term. I cannot believe that the children are now in their final term at Stoke Climsland – the year seems to have flown by! This term is even more jam-packed than the last (if that can be possible) and there is so much for the children to look forward to: the Hobbit Production, Trethorne, leavers’ events, transition visits and the London residential, amongst other things. Please do keep an eye on the class page and newsletters for updates.
In terms of our learning, the following weeks will be focussed on preparing for the Hobbit production: rehearsals, singing, costume design and making, the creation of props and a range of linked learning activities. In addition to this, our project is history-focused and is entitled ‘Unheard Histories’. The project is based on the question, “Who should feature on the reverse of the £10 bank note?” and it allows the children to consider the contributions to Britain of a diverse group of people, whose experiences are less well-known. Knowing how much the class loves a good debate, I am hopeful that this will raise some interesting discussions!
We will also be thinking about transition in both our PSHE and Art work. Our Art project will involve creating a personal memory box using a collection of found objects and hand-made sculptures, reflecting the children’s time at primary school in a symbolic and personal way. In PSHE we will be discussing feelings around the upcoming transition to secondary, alongside exploring strategies that may come in helpful during the first few weeks.
As always, please see our project map for more detail about our curriculum, or contact me if you would like further information.
Routines and Groups: PE and outdoor learning lessons will continue to be on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Children’s PE kit and wet weather kit should be kept in school at all times if possible. We try to do as much outdoor learning as possible so we also ask that children should keep outdoor shoes/wellies at school if possible.
Having asked the children their thoughts and opinions, booster groups will continue to be offered this term for all children who have been attending, however they will now take place on Tuesdays only. These will be very child-led and the children will be able to work on areas of the curriculum of their own choosing.
I am very much looking forward to all that this term has to offer. The class have been an absolute privilege to teach and I hope that each and every one of them has a fabulous final term at Stoke Climsland. Thank you again for all of your support; as always please do contact me via Dojo or the school office if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
Miss Harris
